homemade by my mom

Can I take a minute to brag on my mom? Because she is pretty amazing. My friends threw me a baby shower this weekend (thanks, guys!) and my mom shipped this Moses Basket to me for the occasion. Oh, and she made it. The basket, the liner, the bedding, the whole shebang. Incredible, right?

Isn't it gorgeous?!
I hope baby likes the view. I know it's just a tree, but it is pretty beautiful compared to the dark alley view most of our other windows provide.

Because my mom's so smart, having done this whole having-a-baby thing 8 times herself (I'm telling you - she's wonder woman!), the liner and mattress pads are all washable. Bless her heart for making two so I have a backup while doing laundry.

Last, but not least, a cozy matching quilt. Thanks, mom! You really are an inspiration.

p.s. to all of you who will inevitably ask, no, she does not sell her baskets. Sorry to make you so jealous. :)

UPDATE: Many of you asked about the fabric. The designer is Wendy Slotboom, and it is called XOXO The Cat, part of her "In the Beginning" fabric line. I saw it last night at The City Quilter in Manhattan, and it looks like it is readily available online. Just do a google search. :)

It's adorable! My Moses basket sits on the very same coffee table, btw. It's been wonderful for my infant to sleep in when I'm downstairs and want her nearby.

So sweet...and I LOVE the matching quilt. After just having my 4th boy...just make sure you have a cloth diaper to throw over the "sprinkler system" if you change a diaper here, so the beautiful liner doesn't need laundered also! Happy baby times!

Oh wow. That is just beautiful! I took basketweaving at BYU (no, really, I did and it was a hard class - I only got a B+) and so I know how much work went into that gorgeous basket!

Your mom is amazing! I love it! And the fabric is great, too!

I'm sorry...did you say she made the basket, too? What an amazing heirloom she's given you!

I didn't know there was a basketweaving class at BYU - I totally would have taken it! My mom took a series of classes from a local basketweaver in St. Louis. By the time she had taken all the classes, she and the instructor had become good friends. My mom became her assistant and cut reeds and put together kits for classes. Now she knows how to make just about any basket you can dream up!

I emailed her about the fabric, and she said she'd check the selvedge for me.

I'm not home to measure it, but I believe it is 40 inches long and approximately 17 inches wide. Nice and big!

to Denise ... not if my husband has anything to say about it! I've always wanted a large family though. We'll start with one and see how it goes.

What fabric did she use?? I would love to get some. It is almost as cute as your monkey quilt!

Yes! BYU does have basketweaving! (The graduate level is underwater - haha) It is an Art R class and so you can take it three times for credit. I took it one semester when I needed 12 credits for my Pell Grant but was completely overwhelmed with kids, husband in school, other classes, and being a TA. I loved it! I stalk your blog, but mine is private. If you'd like an invite, email me at tifani@jkhathaway dot org. Love your stuff!

So beautiful!! thank you for letting us be a small part of your lives. Jill, praying for you as these days draw a close to your pregnancy but open a new life as an actively practicing parent. Marie - I believe she used 2 or 3 layers of thick quilt batting for the mattress.

Thanks for the info

I know this post is a few years old now...but I'm trying to find a basket weaving pattern to make my own Moses Basket. Maybe your mom didn't use a pattern? But if she did, I wonder if it would be possible to know where she found her pattern? It is truly beautiful and I imagine you have gotten lots of use from it!!
