quiet book, page 10

The last page of Oscar's book is a little felt mailbox that I can tuck love notes into. The mailbox flag turns up and down, the door is a flap opening, and the stamp on the letter is attached with velcro.

attention grandmas, godmothers and other loved ones who sew: Oscar's mailbox is accepting postcards (3x4 inches or smaller, please)! :)

Only three days until my move, and I am determined to have this book done and ready for the longest travel day of my life. We are moving to southern California, and it will take us something like 15 hours door to door, assuming there are no delays. With a baby. And a rabbit. Heaven help me.

Welcome to California! Good luck on your long journey... yikes!

Thanks for all the fun ideas. I have been a reader of your blog for over a year now and I love it. I especially love your quiet book series. If only I had enough peace and quiet to be able to make one!

I think this might be my favorite page - it's so simple, and kids love to get mail as much as we do! Quick question - is the postcard just fabric, and if so, is it difficult to slide it back into the mailbox? I'm thinking of sewing a thin sheet of plastic or something in between two fabric layers so a child could slide it in easier. Do you think the extra time and effort is necessary?

I've done a fair amount of travelling with my kids at various ages (now 2 years old and 9 months old) and some trips were great and smooth and others...not so much. Just remember that whatever happens during the trip you will be there in the end!

Jill, you are just so stinkin' talented!! I have loved watching you finish and post all of the pages of this book. It is truly a work of love and Oscar will be able to feel that. Safe travels to CA. Wishing you happiness once you arrive and get settled!! (well before you get settled too, but you know what I mean)

Love your quiet book! I lived the first 1/2 of my life in California, a mile from the beach and have lived the 2nd half in farm country of North Dakota. Each has its good points but the best is the ocean. If God would give ND an ocean I would be tickled. The Mister keeps saying California will drop into the ocean soon and that will put the Pacific at our back door. I'm not going to hold my breath on that. Don't know what part of California you are going to (coast or inland desert, but each place has its beauty. Give it a year so you experience all the seasons and local attractions and I know you will love it. Auntie M

I love your quiet book, I think it's the cutest thing ever. I moved from Connecticut to Southern California last August. It wasn't a horrible trip but I swore I would never do it again (two kids, a dog and a cat). Well... fate has different things in store for me. I'm doing it again this saturday, this time only from CA to Indiana. Wish me luck, and keep on crafting!
PS-California is beautiful, I'll be making the drive back in a year.

My favorite page of the quiet book was the robot one. BTW I'm the one that commented around Christmastime that I needed some ideas for a quiet book, so thank you. Now I have to think of meainingful pages to put in my son's book. I feel sad you're moving from NYC. I've always been a bit jealous of you because I love it and want to live there, but good luck in California-

I love your quiet book! I made one recently myself, it took forever!! I was wondering what type of fabric you used for the pages of the book. Whatever I used frayed so much that the book leaves string everywhere even though it's sewn!

You certainly have an amazing talent. I was confused by the 15 hour drive from NY to SoCal though... Are you stopping in the middle? You will love it on the West Coast! My husband is from Maine and is always saying the people here are so much more laid back! Welcome! (I am an Oregonian, but have been to CA numerous times :)
