making baby pants

Dana at made makes hands-down the cutest baby/kids clothes. And she is nice enough to share tutorials, too! This weekend I used her knee pad pants tutorial to make these pants for Oscar:

I left off the knee pads (this time) and added back pockets and front porkchop pockets. I have a bit to learn about pocket placement, but they are definitely wearable.

I like how she shows you how to draft a pattern from a pair of pants you already own. I think I'll try this method on a t-shirt (for me) next.

One time in college, I used a pair of jogging pants to trace a pattern onto a quilt to make Quilt Pants. Then because I was in college without my sewing machine I had to compeltely hand-sew them. It was totally worth it.

I don't know how I didn't think about doing this for my girls - these elastic waist pants are so simple and I'm a sucker for instant-gratification type crafts. Thanks for introducing us to this great blog!

Love your blog! I tried making these for my little guy last week, but.... they didn't quite turn out... I am not too good at using clothes as patterns yet. I never seem to leave enough seam allowance. After seeing yours I may have to try again :o).
I just started a new crafting blog, I would love for you to check it out! http://lafftycrafty.blogspot.com/

Hi Jill,
it's Dana. I'm finally putting it all together. I remember seeing these little pants and now I really know who you are! I'm excited about SYTYC coming up. But there are many clever sewers on-board, so you make me all nervous! It will still be fun though. Maybe all the sewers will push the scrapbookers out first :).
Nice to meet you. Can't wait to see the cute stuff you come up with!
