birthday prep is in full swing

Oscar's first birthday is less than 3 weeks away, so party prep is underway. We're doing a small family party, but you know I can't help crafting a little (or a lot).

First up, Oscar needs a little cake topper. Taking heavy inspiration from The Small Object and Lollipop Workshop, I started painting clothespin dolls last night. This guy up front is my favorite, and I think he looks the most like Oscar.

Little clothespin Oscar still needs clothes and arms, and I am going to do some embellishments for topper base. My plan is to glue the dollpin stand to the base, but make the clothespin removable. That way I can swap out Oscar's doll for a future child on their first birthday. My friend Megan always tells me that my other children will feel neglected because I won't make as many crafts for them (she's a youngest child), so I'm trying to plan ahead. :)

I love that you are making these--I adore the Lollipop Workshop, as well, and want to try making my own. Please give more details as you go, I can't wait to see it finished!

Is it a regular-sized clothespin? Such a neat idea and very smart to plan ahead!

yep - just a regular sized clothespin. You can find them in just about any craft store. I bought mine online from
caseyswood.com

Thats adorable! Morgan is almost 7 months, and even though Im not ready for her to be anywhere close to 1, I'm already thinking about her party because I know it will sneak up on me.

Very cute idea! I love that the front clothes pin looks like your little guy.
We just had a BIG birthday for our one year old, Kole, and it was an EVENT! I did alot of homemade decorations and it was a blast making them (and a blast saving the $$$)! Have fun with the party prep!!

just remember, anything that can fit in a toilet paper roll is a choking hazard. Use the glue, buy extras for later. :D

they are VERY VERY Cute!

I loved the idea Jill! I'm getting things ready for my little man's 1st bday also, where did you get the base and the little stand thing for the clothes pin... could you possibly expand a little on this project?! I would love to do one of this for my Thomas! thanks!

Precious! A little clothes-pin family would make a cute gift for a little girl. Totally portable so they could be played with anywhere!

Cute! I actually bought The Small Objects' Celebration Kid to top my girlie's cake each year. Can't wait to use it first this December.

How is Oscar going to be ONE soon? I honestly and truly feel like you were just sharing the news of his birth a few months ago....scary, but excited for you guys :)
