I've been wanting to do a butterfly "specimen case" ever since I first saw it on
Ali Edward's blog back in Feb. '08. Then I walked into Michael's this weekend and
everything was on major sale, including the whole Martha Stewart Crafts line. I think I had a stroke, because when I came to, I was walking out with several bags of goodies. I can't be held responsible for my actions.
You can find other versions of this project at
Samster Mommy,
LollyChops, and
Peacock Chic.

I love that. I am in the process of making them as Christmas presents.
Seriously, you never disappoint.
Don't you just love them!? Thanks for the link (:
Thanks so much for mentioning my little blog and butterfly project! I really appreciate it!
I too hit up the sale at Michaels this weekend and even managed to find another MS punch that I did not have! So much fun!
Very cute! Joann's had HUGE sales too...I went nuts.
Very cute!
As for Michael's, I love that they allow their coupons to be used on the MS stuff now! :)
Ok. That is so cool! How are the butterflies staying where they are supposed to?
the butterflies are held in place by foam adhesive dots.
I love that you posted about this project...I "copied" Ali's butterfly collage for my bathroom last year, but I am feeling inspired once again by the interesting new takes you posted.
Thanks!
you just gave me my christmas craft idea for my MIL! :) Thank you Thank you! I always try to do one homemade thing for the inlaws. A few years ago i did a scrabble board with the names of all the family members and put it in a memory box frame. The FIL loved it. Now it's MIL's turn for a christmas craft. Her punch of choice would be a pineapple! OHHH, i'm so excited!
Ive thought about doing this as well, but havent decided where Id put it or what punch to use.
I LOVED this! LOL! Your wording was fabulous. Can we EVER be held responsible with a creative mind? :)
WOW! Okay, that's it. I'm going to Michaels.
Let's not even talk about Michael's. I'll be paying full price for this punch. But it's worth it - I love this.
What size is your frame?
Thanks for the idea. I used ladybugs instead of butterflies to fit in my daughter's room. Love it!
I love this idea. I am always lurking around your page and get so much inspiration. This time I will put my inspiration to use :). I recently bought the cricut so I will be using that instead of a hole punch and i will be using different themes as well. (i.e. flowers, fish, birds etc) Thank you for such an easy project that even I can handle.
Oh, my youngest daughter would LOVE this.
This is way adorable. Love it.
I love this! It is so cute! And your spacing -- wow, girl, I don't know how you do it! It looks great!
I love this..plan to make smaller version for my craft room
First of all, I love your blog! I've made a few of these on a small scale, but I want to make a big one...what size frame did you use, and what did you use as the background?
Thanks!
I think I am on my way into Michael's to check it out. So love this!
Oh, I've been wanting to make one of these too!!!
I just had to tell you that you made me laugh, I'm going to use that "stroke" line next time I go to the craft store (on my husband). I am sitting here with the flu :( waiting on my 2 yr old triplets to stop jumping in the cribs and fall asleep for nap so I can lay down too. I feel like crap but you made me laugh out loud. Thanks. Amy
