Saturday we hit off Oscar's "birth week" (because apparently he takes after his mom and likes to drag out the celebrations as long as possible) with a playgroup birthday party. All the babies in our playgroup were born within about two months of each other, which, in addition to making it super fun, gave us a great excuse for a big group party.

I made a number one cake, taking inspiration from the B cake on
Blonde Designs Blog. I made mine two layers and spread a delicious raspberry filling in the middle:

here.
I also made mini carrot cake cupcakes for the babies:

The big polka dot sprinkles are from
Layer Cake Shop (which I love!).
Party number two (grandpa's special party) is scheduled for tonight. Woo!

Happy Birth Week to Oscar. It sounds like you've made some friends in CA. Yippee!
Wow, looks like you've made a bunch of new friends and is getting settled in SB. My little girl's 2nd by day is Sat...do they share the same DOB?
cute!! we got our big sprinkles from the grocery store by accident.. Wilton makes them but those are really bright!!
I really love your cake! That turned out very cute. And the big sprinkles are something I would never have thought of!
Thank you for sharing this! My son turns one in a couple of weeks and I've decided to copy ;-)
Did you bake the cake in a cookie sheet? I've never done that and wanted to check in with someone who has prior to going for it....
Thanks Jill!
It seems delicious and also reminded me the last Myke's party because I ate the entire cake because it was delicious, by the way Myke is my son.
