geek chic

This weekend was my hubby's 30th birthday.  I've always thought that 30 is the perfect age.  Prime of your life.

Anyway, I had plans to continue the geek-cake tradition started last year, but Jared requested a chocolate pie.  I needed something special and homemade to add to his birthday, so I made him a freezer paper stenciled space invaders t-shirt using this cross-stitch pattern as my guide.

While I was in stencil-mode, I made a birthday t-shirt for me and Oscar.  Oscar's said "I love daddy" and mine said "I love Jared." Jared was so embarrassed when I wore my shirt out in public.  But if you can't proclaim your love on a t-shirt, what's the point?  :)

I'd agree that 30 is the prime of your life but 40 is even better ;)
Love the shirts! I think I may steal that idea for my hubbys birthday in March, and I will wear mine out in public as well! :)

I was blog-hopping and came across this post.
I love the t-shirts!!! So stinkin' cute. I think I just may do the same for my husband.
He will be mortified, in a good way, of course:)

I must say that I like my thirties as well. I am more at
peace now and have more self confidence. However, I also feel as old as my mother because this is the age
that I hold her at (35 my age now).

My question is why didn't we get to see your shirt? Hope your hubby had a great birthday!

Yeah, I wanna see your tshirt!

I've sent you a couple of emails but not sure if you got them and for the sake of not totally bugging you, I am gonna ask in the comments....only b/c I'm on a short timeframe to make some burpcloths for a baby....soon coming.

Anyway, what are the measurements of your burpcloths? I am worried that mine are coming out too small....every time I print the template, it's about 6" across....so I was just wondering if they are that small. What is the length, also, if you don't mind my asking.

Thanks, Jill!

Ashley -

I've been responding to your emails. Maybe they are landing in your spam folder?

Anyway, the template should be approximately 9 inches wide at the center and about 18 inches long.

Make sure you right click to save the image and then print it out as a full sheet of printer paper (instead of just printing directly from your browser). Hope that helps!

That is so funny. I made my son a I heart "mom" shirt for Valentine's day and was going to make an I heart "nick" one for me to wear to church on Sunday since it was Valentine's. My husband plays in the worship band, and is on staff at our church, so I thought it would be sweet to stand down front proclaiming my love on a t-shirt. He found out about my plans and nixed them REALLY quick. Hey, I would think it was sweet if he wore a shirt around with my name on it :-) Guys are silly.

I love the space invaders shirt! I've been planning to make my nephew a space invaders shirt so it's nice to know I won't have to draw the stencils. :)

Adorable!

Jill - Can I ask where you found freezer paper? I have checked (or so I thought) every store in Santa Barbara and can't find it anywhere.

Thanks,

I love making freezer paper designs. I did a cute set of onesies for my friend's twins. They had images of Bret & Jemaine from the Flight of the Conchords on them. It got a great laugh at the shower!

PS: Brandy-I bet you can find it freezer paper in the grocery store? Look in the aisle with plastic wrap and aluminum foil.

I want to make a Big Brother shirt for my son and love the font that you used on your son's shirt. Do you know the name of the font???

Jill said...

Christina and Tyler -

The font is called FF Cocon, but I used it on Picnik.com (it is one of the premium font). I'm not sure where it is available elsewhere, but it is published by FontShop. Maybe they have a website?

Good luck!
