purl bee rose clips and cupcakes

This weekend I tried out the Rose Barrette tutorial from The Purl Bee:

Talk about a quick and satisfying project!  I attached one to a clip as directed, and one to a ponytail holder, which I am far more likely to wear.  I'm always amazed at how pretty felt can be.

The majority of this weekend, though, was spent baking.  Then baking some more.  I made over 6 dozen cupcakes as a reminder for a church party this week.  Despite some hiccups in the kitchen, they turned out really yummy.  And when I say hiccup, I mean this:

Making buttercream frosting with a toddler is NOT a good idea.

I took notes from Kristin at the Blonde Designs Blog and tried the 1-2-3-4 Cake recipe from the back of the Swans Down Cake Flour box.  It was really good! (I loved the flavor from the almond extract.)  For the frosting, I used Wilton's Buttercream recipe, which never fails.

This photo is horribly fuzzy ... I forgot my camera and had to take one with my phone.

All in all, my weekend was tasty (though sticky), and my ponytail has never looked so good.  Hope you had a great weekend, too!

That is usually what my kitchen looks like after I bake and I can't blame it on a toddler!

I've made buttercream with a toddler before, and my kitchen looked the same. I also don't let him add flour to a moving mixer anymore either...but its all part of the fun, isn't it?

Ooh, what lucky ladies you have in your ward. :) And those felt flowers are adorable. I haven't seen that version of fabric flowers before and I like them a lot. Thanks for sharing! :)

Oooh, those felt flowers are beautiful! I have been obsessing over felt flowers lately and have a bunch of felt to do just that with.

And I hope you got a good laugh about the flour mess. That seems to be the best medicine for me. Your picture made me laugh!

And cute cupcakes!

I started giving my 2 1/2 year old Asher, his own little teaspoon and measuring cup. That made it so that after he helped with the sugar, I could focus on the recipe and he will just watch and pretend. (It's when he sticks the measuring spoon in daddy's George Forman grease, while I am not looking, that makes it time for him to be done. So gross.:) I can't wait for my hair to grow longer so that I can finally use ponytails again. I will definitely have to try the roses, thanks.

So glad to see a kitchen in the same state of toddler-help as my own! It's a pain to clean up, but oh so cute to see those little ones helping out. Also, love your hair accessories.

Those clips are really pretty! And good thing it's late at night or I'd be on the hunt for a cupcake right about now. Why does icing look even yummier when it's pink?

This looks like great fun...cooking with a toddler is always a little messy which just adds to the fun! Love your hair accessories! I'm hoping for the girl after the boy so I can practice girly stuff too! :)

Cupcakes and roses are beautiful. As for the kitchen well, mine sometimes looks like that and there isn't a toddler around for miles! Hmmm

I had a similar experience...except it was with mashed potatoes, at my husband and I's first Thanksgiving together. Needless to say, I know have a potato masher. :)

I love the barrettes! I am going to try for my 6-year-old daughter, myself, and the little girl due in August. :)

Thanks for sharing!
