ooh, baby - a brother!
A Brother serger, that is! Jared surprised me with one for my birthday. I've been dreaming about owning one, and even mentioned it to him in passing, but he had no idea what I was talking about. What a sweet guy to do some research and pick out a machine all by himself!
There is something about having 12,000 yards of thread hooked into one machine that makes me feel strangely powerful. The knife is fun too. My floor is a mess! There are likely a lot of serger-ific projects coming this way soon.

That's the same serger that I have! But I got mine second hand and saved a lot of money by purchasing it off Craig's List. I am missing the hexagonan wrench and I need to change one of the needles. I ordered a set off eBay so I hope that one of them fits so that I can get going with my serging projects!

My husband has bought me a serger for my upcoming birthday too (OK, I bought it and told him he was giving it to me - your husband is much sweeter than mine!). I'm looking forward to some inspiration in how to use, because I don't have a clue at the moment.

Oh, I just got that same one for Christmas! I love it, especially the fact that the needles are standard sewing machine needles! It makes making clothes so much easier {and they actually last in the wash too!}! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Hoorayyyy!!! That is the exact same one I use, it's wonderful!! You will NEVER sew with knits the same again, that thing sews through them like butter.
Be warned though, MAKE SURE NOT TO SEW OVER ANY PINS! I missed one the other day & no joke, the little knife broke off & came flying at my face. No bueno.
Have fun! And please let me know if you ever figure out how to do a, um, I don't the technical name, but it's kind of a flat stitch that isn't on the edge? If that makes sense? I have yet to figure out how to do hems like aren't on the edge of the fabric.

I love sergers! Here's my list of simple serger proejcts , although I've tried a couple of new ones since I posted that. I also love finding cheap home decor fabric on sale and making tablecloths with a rolled hem around the edge.

i got my mom's serger (brand new though- never used!!) last november and just started using it this year and oh.my.goodness! i love it!! i can't live without mine now :) enjoy!!

What a coincidence, I ordered the same one off of Amazon the other day and am waiting for it to arrive! I am new to serging so I can't wait to get my hands on it and start experimenting.

I've owned this serger for 5 years. It's a very easy one to use. I can't wait to see what your talented hands do with it. Mine only do seams and chiffon. :-)

That's the serger I own too! And by reading the comments and your post, it looks like I'm not the only one.
I just tried using the gathering foot and also a rolled edge this weekend. I was very pleased with the results and the opportunity to become better friends with my serger!
I have that one, too, and I love love love it! I made a whole bunch of raglan t-shirts for CJ last year. I should remember to make some more for him now that it's spring again! I just made myself a cute dress out of a tank top and a yard of knit fabric. Easy-peasy, especially with a rolled "lettuce" hem! Have fun making comfy, stretchy maternity clothes!
