Infant Sun Top and various unfinished projects

The little infant sun top was finally rescued from Oscar's closet today for a photo shoot.

It is a tiny little thing, made using the instructions in the From An Igloo tutorial for a shirred sundress (the fabric is Heather Ross Mendocino Kelp Stripe Blush).  I opted for a single layer instead of a double, and my straps don't tie at the top, which may be a mistake (they look a little long, no?).  Anyway, this was my first attempt at shirring and I LOVE it.  I was all bent out of shape while I sewed it, thinking the elastic thread wasn't gathering as much as I wanted.  But then I pressed it, and presto-chango! it was perfect.   Pressing is key.

I also want to try this Sweet Shirred Sundress pattern from Prudent Baby, and of course, the Summer Vacation Dress and Shortie pattern that I purchased at MADE.  Now that I am not afraid of elastic thread, I have a feeling that will be an addictive pattern.

I have to admit, I made this little top about two months ago.  It took me this long to post because a) I kept forgetting to take a picture, and b) I have a half-sewn pair of bloomers that I wanted to pair it with.  See?

After looking at my unfinished project pile today, I am admitting defeat.  I have trouble committing.  There are half-sewn bloomers, unfinished baby booties, and most importantly, the half finished blessing dress (have I mentioned I want to make a bonnet and shoes to go with it?).  They'll all get done.  I just have to commit.

You know what I don't have trouble committing to?
I finished them off while I was editing photos for this post.  I'll call it a successful afternoon.

Oh, those are the world's most amazing peanut butter cups. Seriously. I always buy them when visiting my parents since we don't have a TJ's here. And I plan on making cookies with them but then eat them all in the car. So they don't melt!

Tee hee... I know how you feel! I just committed to eating a bowl of chocolate chip ice cream while catching up on Google Reader (at least you were editing a blog post!)!

Now, I'm going to commit to cleaning out my e-mail inbox, and sending out some e-mails so that I can get back to my projects!! : )

I love your projects :)

Ahhhh, I am a huge fan of Trader Joes chocolate covered pretzels. Sadly, my Trader Joes is 3 hours away, we used to live in Mass and have one in our town. I sure miss that store!

Can you blame that on me? I think I talked you into them last October when I was out for Oscar's birthday. I can take it, blame me! The sun top is darling! Take it easy....you can sew when I come to help.

You are SO my kind of blogger...loads of projects-in-progress AND a tub of peanut butter candy! Who could ask for anything more?---well, maybe I would still ask for unlimited childcare from Mary Poppins, but really, projects and candy just about do it all for me.
Lovely little baby items you've made and are making!

I have the exact same problem! I start a project and then I don't finish it and it just keeps piling up! You are not alone!
Those peanut butter cups look delicious and I agree it was a very successful afternoon. :)

I quick checked your sidebars and didn't see a shop link - just wondering if you sell your creations?

Your dress is so tiny and cute! Love It!

Mmmm....I could go for some of those pb cups!

I have loads of unfinished projects too and the sad part is that if I don't finish, usually they never get finished because I lose interest!

Thank you Jill!

I have been skimming through your blog for a while now and just wanted to say what an inspiration! They fact that you can do all of these cute projects while having a toddler and being pregnant! Wow! I have a hard time finishing one project with my 10 month old! Anyway keep posting! You are giving me a lot of inspiration for projects in the future thanks!

Im so inspired by your site, and have been sewing more and more. unfortunately, my singer merritt 3130 just died for the second time. I don't think the repair is worth it. What kind of machine do you use and would you recommend it? thanks

The top is really cute, though I think I'd be afraid of trying shirring. Good luck with getting your projects done.

I really, really wish I didn't know that Trader Joe's makes those...

Your site really inspires me and gets my creative juices going. I'm so glad to see a craft blogger being honest about unfinished work. We always see these wonderful finished projects, but it's cool to know you're like the rest of us and have a pile too :)

You make me laugh! I don't have a problem committing to chocolate peanut butter cups either, but I do have a lot of unfinnished projects that need my attention.

I wish I hadn't seen that last picture. Those look awesome and we have a Trader Joe's down the road. I also have a similar pile of unfinished baby booties. However my own baby just arrived 5 days ago, so they're not likely to get done soon. Good luck!

I'm looking for a tutorial for bloomers, and by the looks of your picture, I have a feeling you might have one...maybe? If you do, and when you have, would you mind sharing?
Again, big fan of your blog, most of my sewing projects come straight from your blog!!
