my new love: silhouette craft cutter (GIVEAWAY CLOSED)

I told you this was big ...

A couple weeks ago I was shipped a Silhouette SD Craft Cutter to test out ... with the understanding that if I didn't like it, I could send it right on back with no obligation.  I couldn't resist!  And, um ... I'm keeping the Silhouette, thank-you-very-much.

I've always been under the impression that craft cutters were for the scrapbooking set only.  So while I can see how this product would definitely appeal to scrapbookers, the Silhouette is made for anyone who loves to craft.  If you like to make personalized gifts, home decor, DIY clothing, or just awesome stuff in general, this is the tool for you.  This slim little beauty can cut paper, cardstock, vinyl, and heat transfer material.  I don't know how I crafted without it!  Ok, that is a little over-dramatic, but the point is, I really love it.

The Silhouette hooks right up to your computer so you don't need a bunch of cartridges or extra tools.  You can download literally thousands of images from their online store for a very reasonable price, or simply create your own using the included software. In my mind, this is its best feature, for paper cutting alone - it is like having an unlimited source of paper punches in every shape and size imaginable.

I can't wait to use it for ...

The Silhouette is awesome for paper party crafts - it has templates for favor boxes, cupcake wrappers, table tent cards, cake stencils(!) ... you name it. With a click of a few buttons, you could easily (and quickly) create an entire party theme and decorations (and later this week, I'll show you how).

Of course, the first thing I had to try was the heat transfer.  I couldn't resist decorating a few onesies for the baby.  For the pink onesie, I created my own image using a free graphic and font that came with the machine's software (there is a whole image and font library built in).  For the white onesie, I downloaded the flower graphic (detailed flower 1 by Sweet Afton)  from the online store.

If you want to see even more examples of what this amazing little machine can do, just check out the Silhouette website or blog

So, are you ready for the giveaway?  You can win:
A Silhouette Machine

  • Power cable, USB cable
  • 2 Cutting mats (one for thick media, one for thin media)

This giveaway is now closed!  Thanks for entering!

You know you want it!  Let's keep things simple ... there is only ONE way to enter.  Visit the Silhouette website and take a look around.  Then come back and leave a comment on this post by August 7th telling me how you'd use your new favorite craft tool (as if you could pick just one project).   The winner will be randomly selected on August 8th.  This giveaway is available only to U.S. residents (sorry!).  The only rules: one entry per person and you have to leave me some way to contact you - anonymous comments will be ignored.

okay where to start....I fell upon your blog last fall, since then i have not been able to stop reading and have created my own! because of your blog and great ideas i asked for a sewing machine for christmas (i think my mom was supper excitied because she has been sewing since she was 14) My first project...a quiet book! Since then i have not been able to stop, well except for the birth of my second baby :) So i thank you for inspiring me!! i was/am a huge scrapbooker (way more into sewing now thanks to you) and had a great cutting machine by another company, which i used to make a million thinks with, however, this past spring mine broke and well they aren't very cheap to replace. My father who has always been able to fix EVERYTHING and i mean EVERYTHING (my mom still has her dryer of 25 years with 6 people in the house and a freg that she bought USED 25 years ago...its brown), left in January for a work trip to Washington State. I had big plans for him fixing my cutting machine when he arrived home in late August...i knew he could do it!! Well on June 15th he died of a heart attack in his hotel room all by his self. My dad was 54 years old and had no known medicial problems. I can't bear to throw the machine out, everytime i look at it i think of him coming home to fix it. I know this is a long response but i thought that by winning this machine it might make it a little eaiser to get rid of the old broken one. I can not begin to tell you all the things i would use this for, party planning (which i absoulutly love), scrapbooking, baby clothes, bibs, and well once again you have inspired me..to clean out my pantry and organize, love the labled boxes:) Kelly jkgish1@hotmail.com www.thegishfamilyblogspot.com

This is super cute. Every year I volunteer with an after school tutoring program and I always look for cute incentive ideas. I could grab cheap tees and allow students who hit grade marks to design/make custom tees that have positive messages (think "I am College Bound" or "Future Role Model")

Not only is it an incentive but its a way to introduce art and design to students and since that budget has been cut this would be a lifesaver. This blog rocks :)

Where to begin...I would start with the heat transfer for my 6 month old's onsies and then move on to cutouts for her 1st year baby book!

Oh! From what I have been reading and seeing (the silhouette website is awesome!) this machine looks like such fun! and soo easy to use too! I think the first thing I would do is cut vinyl for my wall. I have a new favorite poem and instead of painting it on the wall I'd vinyl it onto the wall. :} Then I would design and cut out game pieces for my friend that just made up this fun GREAT game! We would then have a party and try everything out! I'd make t-shirts for everyone that came to the part too! Maybe it will be a scrapbook party! Card party! I can’t make up my mind I’ll have to do both! Endless fun! Thanks for the chance to win!

heat transfers seems to be the most popular answer... My girls would be the envy of the neighborhood! The boys would have fun, I would finally be able to create something for them (that looked half decent).
I would add, vinyl to everything. Everything would have a label, quote, sign.
