Ruby's blessing dress

It is done (phew!) - and 3 days ahead of when I absolutely needed it, which must be some sort of record for me.   I stayed up into the very wee hours of the morning sewing, only to receive an unwelcome wake-up call from Oscar at 5:45 a.m.  Why does that always happen to mamas?

Point being, I am quite tired, so more details later.

It is so perfect and gorgeous! What type of fabric did you use? Did you make up the pattern? I am in love with it and want a little girl to dress up! Boys are boring.

Lovely really is the right word for it! It looks sweet and simple (though I'm sure it wasn't simple to make). Here's a tip I learned when we blessed our squirmy wormy son: make sure Ruby is wrapped up in a blanket with traction (i.e., not satin!). The blessing blanket I made had flannel on one side and satin on the other. Baby started squirming midway through the blessing and almost slid right out of the hands of the men helping with the blessing since they were holding the satin side of the blanket. I've learned my lesson for next time.

I love it, she will look absolutely precious in it! If you made the pattern and sell it I would buy it. I'm hoping to make something similar for my little girls coming home dress.

I love Ruby's dress. I just finished sewing two lovely blessing dresses for my friend's twin girls. I made them from her heavy, polyester satin wedding dress (!) so I really appreciate the sweet softness and simplicity of Ruby's. She will be so beautiful in it! It is precious!

It's lovely.

Go and get as good as a snooze as a momma can get!

Thanks for all of the compliments!

The fabric is a very lightweight cotton lawn. It is quite thin, so the dress is fully lined.

I made my own pattern and am planning to share it with a free tutorial. I'm making a second dress for a friend and will use it to make the tutorial, hopefully sometime within the next month.

How pretty! She is going to look so beautiful in it! And yes, you are right, children do have odd nights right when you haven't had much sleep! Isn't it ironic?

Nice work, as always. Seriously girl - you have oodles and oodles of talent.

I am pumped to see pics of Rube wearing that beauty. AND even more pumped to meet the little kid in December. Holla.

I just found your blog today, but I have to comment...I love it.

This dress is adorable! Your little girl will be so cute in it. Funny, last night my husband was telling me I should try making christening gowns for the sewing business I am trying to start ;)

Such a pretty dress! She will look so sweet on her Blessing day. Don't love when the baby sleeps longer than the older sibling. My 2 year old woke up twice last night and the 2 month old slept till 6. I feel your pain.

Omgoodness, that dress is beautiful. And I don't know how the heckfire you pulled it off but major kudos to you for sewing!

Your comment cracked me up,that is SO my life. Ohhh, these crazy kids. I keep telling my husband though that one day we'll miss this. At least that's what I'm told.

I love the pin tucks. It has been a big regret of mine that I didn't make my daughter's blessing gown, or at the very least a nicer purchased one.

Gorgeous! It's simple and classy... just my taste. Way to go!

So pretty! Those pin-tuck pleats look so good. That must have been hard work to keep them parallel. What a precious heirloom.

When are you going to post how to make the dress. All the ones I have made have been too big.

Ruby's dress is beautiful. It's simple, but so perfect! I bookmarked this page months ago just in case one day we had a little girl. I finally get to put my bookmark to use. Were you ever able to post the tutorial? I'd love love love to have some tips before I attempt it on my own.

are you willing to share your pattern. I love the dress and am preparing to make one for my daughter who will be born in December (trying to be a little more prepared this time). What fabric did you use as well, it is just beautiful? Thanks. hollyyorgason (at) gmail (dot) com.
