How is your advent calendar coming along? I am just barely keeping pace with my own assignments (seriously - I finished my ornaments in the wee-est of the wee hours of the morning today). However, it is very satisfying to have a few ornaments to stuff into those little pockets.
I started my ornaments out with four gifts (I love how it looks like there are presents under the tree on the Inchmark advent), a stocking, the star, a dove, and a baby Jesus, laying in the manger. The baby Jesus ornament was always my very favorite on the tree growing up.
Ready for some beautiful inspiration? This is an advent-in-progress by Katie at So Happy.
It seriously makes me want to scrap my advent and start over, copying her step by step. I love everything about the tree. Oh, well ... no time to start over now. Must plug along.
You can also gather some ornament inspiration from Flickr user, Angela Allen. I like her colors and use of buttons on the ornaments.
Ready for this week's assignment?
- Sew on all 24 buttons
- Make 8 more ornaments

Thank you so much for the beautiful compliments. I love your baby Jesus ornament, so cute! I'm hoping to make a plush nativity set for my little ones this year, we'll see if I can get it done in time :). Thanks for starting this sew-along, I'm really enjoying it.
can you stop sharing pictures of all these wonderful calendars? i seriously just want to throw mine away and copy everyone else!!! grrrr.
I'm loving this project! I'm sewing along with you, but I havent started any ornaments yet. I will start on them tonight after the kiddos are in bed. Are you making your ornaments 1-ply of felt, or 2? Are you stuffing them with any filler? Also, any ideas on how the tiny leaf wreath ornament was made for the Inchmark calendar? LOVE that one! Thanks for doing the sew along Jill!
I'm loving your Advent calendar! I finished an Advent calendar this week. I sized mine to hold surprises for toddlers. I really like the idea of making another that can hold ornaments.

I'm so excited about my advent calendar! I'm doing colorful pockets and am now in the process of sewing them to the white backing. Thanks for all the great ideas!
I have what may be a silly request... can you show how you do the stitching around the edge. I never learned any "proper" way and was wondering how you do it.
Thanks Jill!! I am so loving doing my advent calendar but I am not looking forward to sewing on the pockets! Still have not done it! LOVE your baby Jesus - that will be my next one to do. I am trying to find a good template for a Santa face! If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it!
i never would have done this without the support from everyone else doing it. Please ladies post some pics to the Flikr group so I can see all your lovely designs!
I LOVE the baby Jesus ornament. I need to make one of those.
I made all 8 ornaments while watching Harry Potter last night with my husband. I was having so much fun I didn't want to stop. :) lol
Thanks for the support and inspiration. I'm loving how my calender is taking shape.

I had the same thought when I saw Katie's calendar. I almost decided mine in progress is a "practice" calendar and I'm going to make a new one next year! I'm almost caught up too - few more ornaments to finish tonight for my first set to be done!
Um, you are amazing. I am barely getting my teeth brushed these days and you are making an headbands and advent calendars. I'm even ordering our turkey pre-cooked this year. How lame am I?
Love seeing everyone's pictures, love the baby Jesus! I am almost caught up with week 2, will post a photo when I get there. Hand sewing the pockets is taking me forever, and they still seem crooked! ;) I too, want to know how to make that wreath!
What are you using to hook the ornaments onto the button?
Ack! Cuteness and talent overload! So, I was sewing earlier tonight and hoping you weren't posting today since I am soooo behind :( Just finishing my pockets, will get to my tree tomorrow I hope (love the Katie So Happy tree!!). And my pockets are crooked, but I am just going to chalk it up to "hand made charm". The kids won't care, right? I hope to post a pic to flicr tomorrow. Thanks so much for the ideas, inspiration, and I love all of the comments, too!!!
Wow, I'm a bit jealous. I'm far behind (only completed the pockets), can't sew and will never schieve something so beautiful. You are my sewing hero....

Hope I am not stepping on your toes Jill, I just wanted to let everyone who is looking for GREAT stitching tutorials (on video) to go to: http://www.needlenthread.com
She has step by step video instructions. Most even come with a written introduction or more information. They are so easy to learn in this format! Hope it helps the budding stitchers!!
does it look like katie's calendar numbers used a straight stitch? i can't seem to get her blog to open on my computer.
I'm far enough behind that I haven't cut out my tree yet. Lucky for me, though, 'cause I LOVE the tree shape on Katie's tree.
This is such a fun project - thanks for the inspiration.
Hmmm, I have cut my tree but have not yet sewed it on yet. Perhaps I can make some last minute changes...?
Wow!! I've fallen in love with your calendar! I know what will be occupying my nights for the next few weeks! I'm jumping in the sew a long on week 3....lets see if I can catch up!
wow!!! I wish I had the patience to tackle this project. Yours looks amazing!
Amazing , i just love your work
You're always amazing & I love all your creations!
I have a question:
which color of green & blue felt do you have?
THANKS!! I know you're busy.
Finally caught up and posted my pics!
My pockets each have a note with a holiday-inspired activity. I was inspired by "The Artful Parent" last year, so this was my main goal. I wanted something more permanent and when I saw this sew-along, I knew the ornaments would be so much fun! Glad I am able to have both!

These are cute. Almost makes me wish I celebrated Christmas.
This is sooo amazing!!! I just started working with felt and I'm so in love. I can't wait to get started on this. Thanks for the wonderful idea.
Thank you for being the spark of inspirations I needed to get our family advent calendar done! I even made one for my younger brother... I posted pics on one of my blogs in case you're interested in seeing...

My ornaments were done with sculpey or fimo clay. I didn't want the felt ornaments!
Thanks for being a great inspiration for me!
Snap. Wish I had checked the happenings on you blog a few weeks ago! I've been wanting to make an advent calendar, and this looks great! Love it!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and the fam!
Love it! I'll have to try this when I get some free time :)
These are all such great ideas! Being short on cash for the holidays and not much space for storing christmas decor, these are wonderful projects!
