advent sew-along: week 4 - crunch time!

Fellow advent sewers ... we have one week until December 1st.  Can you make it?

Here are my ornaments from last week: a bell, wreath, bow, snowflake, peppermint candy, candy cane, mitten, and Santa Claus.

I have to admit, though, I fell behind on my button sewing.  I have about half the buttons sewn on, and will have to catch up on the rest this week.

Here's what I'm loving from the flickr group this week:

Nativity Ornaments from Vivian Crafts - so cute!

Flickr user Igjcunha is finished and I love her quirky ornaments which include a garden gnome, mushroom, and hedgehog.

Kirsten W. is making us all look bad by cranking out two advent calendars.

Katie's ornaments are, of course, perfect. They look like they came straight from a pottery barn catalog.   She has mad skills.

Ready for your final assignment?  This week you need to ... finish your advent!  If you've been using my assignments, here's a list of what's left to do.

  • Make 8 ornaments
  • Sew any additional embellishments to the main calendar pieces.  I am embroidering a little note to my kids and the year it was made on the back side.
  • Sew the front and back pieces of the calendar together.
  • Add tabs to the top to hang.  You'll also need a dowel to hang it from.
  • Put it on display and enjoy!
Can't wait to see your finished calendars.  Happy stitching!

This is so adorable! I wish I would have done your sew-a-long but time is short these days! I'm hoping to finish stuff I started last Christmas :) lol

Wow, mine looks like a kindergartener did it compared to some of those! I may have to do a new one for next year, haha.

I was so excited to see your sew-along a few weeks ago and then decided that I'd let myself off the hook this year and save this project till another year. Well, these are so stinkin cute, I think I'm going to start one tonight. Thank goodness my Walmart is 24 hrs so I can get some embroidery floss tonight and craft over Thanksgiving while my inlaws play with the kids. :)

OKAY so I might not be able to complete it this week. BUT I do have 11 months next year to finish it :-) this speed is WAY too fast. BUT I love all the pics to inspire me!

I've joined along, but I don't have a flickr account. Here's the link to my advent post:

I'm planning on getting a new sewing machine, so I'm doing ornaments first, then I'll sew the calendar next week. Thanks for the inspiration AND the fun!

I love the wreath! So pretty. I was feeling terribly behind but I guess I've already put the main calendar and tabs and such, so my steps are just mixed up :). Love the idea of adding a little note and the year on the back, that didn't occur to me. Definitely going to do that. Thank you for hosting this sew-a-long it's been super fun. Thank you again for your compliments and featuring my work, it's very flattering. I really enjoy reading your blog.

These are so inspiring! Please please please would you consider doing a tutorial for your wreath ornament? I would love to include one in my calendar (although at the rate I'm going it might be ready for Christmas 2013!).

this may help you...i sewed all my buttons on with the zigzag on my machine. i am making two advents (death wish) and it took me about an hour to sew them all on both today. i dropped the "dogz" (feed dogs) and carefully set the stitch width to the appropriate width for the buttons i chose. then, away i went. super fast. not sure how they will hold up. but, they are DONE!!! they look super cute, about 10-12 stitches per button, but whose counting. hope that help someone.

on a separate note, jill, please do more sew alongs. this really lit a fire under me. i have never sewn so much. do another, please. btw, i'm on my hands and knees here. preferably a boy project, ;)

Great job on your ornaments! I'd also love to hear any tips you have on the wreath. It looks like it would take forever to cut & sew all those leaves, but it is lovely!

Jill, can you tell us how to make the wreath ornament? Thanks!

That wreath! That bell! What a fun group of ornaments. Awesome!

finished!! finally I sew all my ornaments, and I was able to add some very simple snowflakes to my back (I put a light blue back to my green tree, so that can be a sky). I cant' wait to hang it... the problem is that I don't know yet where to place it...

I've finished! Well mainly, just got 21 ornaments to make but nothing like cutting it fine! The kids put their first ornament on this morning and thats all that matters. I'm having trouble uploading to Flikr atm so take a look here to see it in all its deliciousness

I am new to your blog and obviously late to the idea but plan to work furiously at least on ornaments for this year. Are people just making up their ornaments or are there patterns to download somewhere?
