I couldn't resist making the little owl teether I found at The Rubber Punkin. Such a cute free pattern!
Instead of stuffing the owl, I used one layer of plastic and one layer of warm 'n natural batting inside, for that soft crinkle, crinkle sound that my baby loves. The plastic is actually a piece of diaper wipes packaging, which is one of Ruby's favorite things to get her hands on.
Just cut the plastic and batting to the main pattern piece size and sew them together. Then layer it on top of your outer owl pieces and sew according to the directions in the tutorial. Using a walking foot on your sewing machine also helps!
I used minky fabric on the back to make it extra soft and cuddly.
Munch, munch ... crinkle, crinkle. This is going to be your baby's favorite chew toy.
Update: Ruby's leggings are from Kohl's (thanks, grandma!) and I made the headband using the rolled felt flower tutorial at I Am Momma - Hear Me Roar. The elastic is called Fold Over Elastic (FOE) and can be pretty commonly found in the elastic/trim section at your fabric store. It is my favorite elastic for baby headbands because it is super soft, comes in great colors, and is wider than your typical elastic.

How nice! And what a clever idea, using the crinkling plastic...
Doll baby! I have to make one of these for my Ellie...
What a cute idea. Do you have a tutorial for the headband? It's super adorable!!
So cute! I need to make one for my son. He will love it! :)
What a great idea! Another thing to add to my "want to sew sometime in the near future" list!
These are too cute!
The teethers are adorable, but what is slaying me is the houndstooth leggings on those chubby little legs of Ruby's. Out of control.
Ruby is just gorgeous!!! I am going to have to make one of these adorable teethers for my nephew (born Friday!!!). Congrats on being an aunt again and thanks for the great idea!
For cuteness!!!
My little guy will LOVE this!!! THANK YOU!!!
The owl teether is cute, but it's those houndstooth leggings that are slaying me! And that little headband is to die for, handmade by you?
i just love that i can always trust you to find the good stuff on other people's sites and post it here... i love having it all in one place. :)
The teether is very cute! But I have to agree that headband is adorable!! Do you make your headbands (the elastic part) or buy them and decorate? The size is great! So many fun projects for me to do for our new baby :)
Adorable owl, but I want to know how to make the flower on the headband!!
Very cute & great idea!
I would love it if you linked up to my party :)

Thanks for posting this! I just love your website! We expecting a girl fairly soon, so I am adding this to my list of things to make for her. I'm glad you posted the info about Ruby's headband. I'm going to try to find that elastic!
So cute! (the owls and your sweet little girl)
Ruby really is a very pretty girl! So cute!
oh my! I can't wait to make one for my little girl.
And wow, you have a chunky monkey, just like mine! I love the thick wrists, it is the cutest!
Super cute! And no, I cannot believe Ruby is that big already! Time really does fly. She is so adorable! You have the cutest kids ever!!
Love the crinkle!
The leggings, head band and owl are all so cute. Especially love the head band, I'm guessing that the elastic comes in different colors. I'd like to make a couple of head bands for my g'daughter, to match outfits! Thanks for sharing the owl, could really have used that when W. started teething a few months ago.
Love the owl! and you fabric is perfect - where did you find it?
Thanks for the info about the elastic you used for the headband. I've made a few flowers myself, and haven't been able to find the right elastic. Do you think they'd have it at Joann's?
I love the idea of having a cute little owl to munch on. Thanks so much for sharing! You are so inspiring! I always look forward to your blog posts.

Love the little owl - so cute! And, the headband is adorable - would you consider a tutorial for the flower?? :-) Thank you for sharing your great ideas - love your blog!
Ruby is just the most beautiful baby [apart from my babies of course]. Not only would my baby love one of these but my big girl [16 months] would love a big stuffed Owl pillow I'm sure!!
I would love to make one of these! i went to the blog you posted and asked her for the pattern,(can't seem to print it from the scribd page) but she has not gotten back to me. Can you email me the pattern? janell999@yahoo.com
thanks!
Cute! And love the headband!
Great idea and it looks awesome. I just recently found your blog and it has been an inspiration to me. I have been sewing more, creating more jewelry and just putting crafting in front of laundry on my to-do list.

Gosh she is soooo adorable!
Wow I love these all cute babies photo's,
and these fabrics are really awesome of made to play for her...
I've got a little one about the same age that chews on everything! This idea looks like a lot of fun and something I can work on during naptime! Thanks for posting it. Ruby is a doll and looks so cute. I love the headband too.
Oh my gosh... those are so cute! I am so into owls lately! I am going to make this for my 3 month old. A couple of nights ago I started making my other 2 daughter's valentine shirts and they have a little cute owl on them. I also made some candy labels for their valentine cards/treats for school with a little owl and it says- You Whoo... Happy Valentine's Day! I just have to put them together!
You have an adorable baby! I'm going to draw up my own variation of this little teether. I do like your idea to make it crinkly versus the original being stuffed with batting. Its cute! I have to keep myself busy till my little guy decides he can come out! The stinker! I'm due on the 7th... hence my impatience!
Did you see the owl pattern from Silhouette? (I love your details though.) The idea that this beautiful machine can cut fabric as well is too exciting for words. ;-)
Such cute fabric on the owl, do you mind sharing what kind it is? I have been searching for fabric with orange/yellow/gray on it but haven't had any luck! Thanks!

Thank you for reminding me about this pattern. I'd seen it a long while ago, printed the pattern and then never did anything with it. I made one for a friend, and I used your idea of using something to make it crinkle inside. It really is adorable. So is Ruby!
I've linked back to you: http://daniellebartran.blogspot.com/2011/02/more-baby-gifts.html
Those little owls are so adorable!!! Ruby is getting cuter by the minute! Jenn
OMG...Love this! So adorable! Need to make one of these pronto!
I love these! I made 3 the same day I saw this tutorial. I always wondered how to make the 'crinkly' noise! Thanks!
super cute!
Can you tell me how you determine how long to make the elastic of the headband?

Adorable! And what a beauty Ruby is :)
Made one of these for my 3-month-old daughter Poppy today and she's munch-munch-munching on it now! I used shredded up cellophane to stuff it and it has already earned the name "Crinkle Owl" from my 2-year-old son!
Thanks for sharing :)
