sewing for me

We had a pretty slow weekend for crafting at my house - Jared sucked me into a new tv show (the British "Downton Abbey"), so we were camped out on the couch.  It was wonderfully lazy.

I did sew this skirt for myself last week, using the Party Skirt Tutorial at Creative Spaces.  The directions are very easy to follow, and the only changes I made were to sew two side seams and sew the sash into the waistband.   It turned out really cute!  I should sew for myself more often.

Jill, I'm a longtime reader but don't think I've ever commented before. That skirt is absolutely PRECIOUS! I love the color. And the waistband. And the length. You know, just everything about it :)

Gorgeous skirt! I live in the UK and when Downton Abbey was repeated I sucked my husband into it just like your husband did to you. Can't wait for the new series!!

Very pretty! I love the bright color, especially in the winter! And Downton Abbey, I love love love it. Mary's clothes are so beautiful. I can't believe they left it hanging like that though...

I'm making a skirt that is very similar! It's even linen too. It was originally a sundress, but it wasn't working up top, so I cut it off. I'll be posting it on my blog when it is finished. Love the color of your's!

You SHOULD sew for yourself more often! :) Thanks for sharing! I may just need to start a skirt-sewing club. So many cute skirt ideas out there! (and btw, my friend and I modified your denim skirt-from-jeans project & they turned out great! keep the mommy projects coming!)

Jill, this is so pretty and feminine. I can't imagine how wonderful to be able to sew yourself clothes! I am definitely not there yet, but someday, hopefully. :)

Oh this is cute! You rock it! Often this style doesn't do much for the figure but this pattern looks like it is a lot more flattering! The sash and bow are a perfect addition.

Love it! I'm going to make one for myself this week. First time ever sewing for myself or really a piece of clothing for that matter. Hope it turns out well. I would also like to know what fabric you used. Do share.

Such a cute skirt. What size zipper did you use? I couldn't find it on the original post.

Thanks

To be honest, I just grabbed a zipper from my stash - I have no idea how long it was. Maybe 10 inches?
