The inspiration was J. Crew's Medallion jeweled sash.
Megan liked the inspiration belt, but wanted one that was much thinner (only half an inch wide), a little less blingy, and that clasped in the back instead of tied.
In my version, I imitated that starburst cluster on a smaller scale with beads, and added in some smaller bead and crystal groupings. For the closure, I sewed on two hooks and eyes.
It was a little stressful to make something that would be worn on such an important day, but a lot of fun, too (you know, when I could stop freaking out about whether she'd like it). All that beading and handstitching went a lot faster than I expected, too, especially accompanied by some good tv (for this project, it was episodes of My So Called Life). The Swarovski crystals were purchased at M&J Trimming and most of the beads came from Michaels.
And here is the lovely couple, on their wedding day:
It was such a wonderfully happy wedding!

That belt looks amazing! what an honor to be able to make something for the brides wardrobe!
That is so beautiful! Good work. :D
that is really beautiful. so pretty, and what an awesome touch.
really beautiful!! Well done, I'm super impressed with your beading skills!
Your friend looked wonderful! Lovely, lovely dress - but your little belt really did make it extra special.
And, you know what... she will maybe (probably) not keep her dress for ever - but I bet you she will keep that belt for always and always, especially because it was made with love, just for her, by a dear and clever friend. Well done!
Such a beautiful belt! So funny--I just visited a friend last night who had just finished a VERY SIMILAR bridal belt. Swarovski crystals and crystal beads on a white ribbon. I had never seen anything like it and then today...yours! So very beautiful...
Oh my gosh it's beautiful! Bridal stuff is such a ripoff, too - way overpriced for what you get. My mom made my wedding veil with just a couple bucks worth of tulle instead of the $150 the stores were charging. Crazy. Anyway, you being able to give her a gorgeous, handmade gift is so special. She was a stunning bride!
It's so very elegant. I'm not usually one for sparkly stuff but you made this belt look really good. =)
I never comment, but I just had to on this one. That belt is GORGEOUS.
what a small world... now i don't even know how i found your blog, but have been following for a while now. I went to nursing school at BYU with Chelsea!! love her! too funny. maybe that is how i found your blog?? don't remember.
Prett! I remember Chelsea from BYU (is that right). I can't remember any other details though!
You did a wonderful job. The belt was the perfect touch to the dress. You and your friend look like you could be sisters!
that belt is really beautiful and fascinating .
Humain Touch are often more difficult to produce but it still so beautiful than machine products and the proof is your product.
That is truly gorgeous and a definite labor of love! She's very blessed to have you for a friend, but you obviously feel the same about her to have been willing to do something like that!
Amazing belt!! Love it - very beautiful touch to the dress! I'm sure she will treasure it forever. Isn't that your friend you use to go bee-bopping through NYC with? Always wondered what happened to her!! :-)
it's gorgeous, Jill! So delicate and totally compliments her simple dress! I'd call this a success!
The belt looks amazing
